Code of Ethics

We the members of the Barbados Manufacturers’ Association will strive in all aspects of our business relations with members of the public and fellow members, to uphold the following principles and codes of conduct:

  • We resolve to respect our colleagues, our clients, suppliers, competitors, and consumers, ensuring the equitable and considerate treatment of others.
  • We resolve to promote the economic development along with the protection, conservation, and security of the environment of Barbados, and the public health of our fellow citizens.
  • We resolve to promote healthy competition by:
    1. Following a fair price, fair competition policy
    2. Abiding by the laws of the land and the rules and regulations stipulated by the relevant government agencies.
  • We resolve to keep ourselves informed on issues affecting the manufacturing sector in Barbados so that we may be able to contribute to:
    1. The efficient use of raw materials and other resources
    2. Public thinking on taxation
    3. And legislation affecting the interests of the sector.
  • We resolve to be well informed on current market conditions in order to be in a position to arrive at a fair market price for our products.
  • We resolve to, eliminate any practices that could be detrimental to the public good, or to the dignity and integrity of the manufacturing sector.
  • We resolve to, ascertain all the relevant facts concerning our product, so that we may fulfill our obligation to avoid product mislabeling, exaggeration, misrepresentation, and misleading advertising.
  • We resolve that those who become privy to confidential information about a client in the course of business must preserve such confidentiality. Only such information about the affairs of a client as may ordinarily be public information or is required by law or authorized by the client should be divulged.
  • We resolve to conduct our business in such a way as to avoid controversies with fellow manufacturers whether members of BMA or not.
  • We resolve that in the event of any disputes, involving members and/or nonmembers, to adhere to any decisions made by the Council of Management.
  • We shall not seek unfair advantage over our fellow manufacturer whether in cash or kind.
  • We shall not voluntarily disparage the business practice of a competitor, nor volunteer an opinion of a competitor’s transaction. If his opinion is sought, it should be rendered with strict professional integrity and courtesy.
  • We shall not solicit the services of an employee in the organization of a fellow manufacturer.
  • We resolve to adhere to the standards of production and other guidelines set by the regulatory bodies governing the manufacturing sector in the best interests of Barbados, of our associates and of our own business.
  • We resolve to maintain the highest standards of safety and labour relations applicable to our businesses. And shall at all times promote the welfare of our employees through compliance with guidelines and regulations set by Government regulatory bodies.
  • We resolve to continuously strive to utilize resources and tools available to us, to increase the productive efficiency of our operations.
